Eutomostethus ephippium
HYMENOPTERA > SYMPHYTA > Tenthredinidae > Blennocampinae > Phymatocerini
A small (4-5mm body length) black sawfly with a red/orange-backed thorax and mesopleural (sides), that is superficially similar in general appearance to the larger Alder Sawfly species Eriocampa ovata.
The species is fairly common especially in the south of the country where it can be seen from May to June, and sometimes again in August. The larvae feed on soft grasses.
