Pimplinae
Pimpla cf.flavicoxis
HYMENOPTERA > APOCRITA | Parasitica > Ichneumonidae > Pimplinae > Pimplini
Interestingly, there are two different individuals featured here, photographed at different locations at completely different times of the year. Although similar to some other species, they were both identified by different experts on the British Ichneumonoidea FB group as very likely Pimpla flavicoxis.
However, because they closely resemble Pimpla insignatoria and can only be reliably separated by close examination of the antennae, which is rarely possible from photos, the identity is tentative.
Both species are regarded as common and widespread particularly in deciduous woodland.Â
