Tryphoninae

Cosmoconus cf.nigriventris

HYMENOPTERA > APOCRITA | Parasitica > Ichneumonidae > Tryphoninae > Tryphonini

This is another tryphonine ichneumon where the actual species can't be positively confirmed - Cosmoconus sp., for sure, but with four members of the genus that need to be considered. However, only two, Cosmoconus meridionator and Cosmoconus nigriventris, have been recorded from my general area but, interestingly, all from this particular NNR or the connected northern sector that borders Kitt's Grave and Vernditch Chase. Furthermore, the NBN Atlas shows that all the records for Cosmoconus nigriventris are from Martin Down with October being the most frequently recorded month.

I can't find any specific information in respect of this species other than it can often be found on umbellifers.
